To an extent, yes, I think Americans have leaned into this shame culture the most. I'd suggest it's due to some combination of our hyper-capitalist tendencies, massive inequality, Puritan influence, and awful social safety net.
In any case, I think/hope the ones you're describing are far more rare than they seem on social media. That's been my experience in general. Twitter and FB are where the toxic and the negative go to get their day in the sun, and it in turn exacerbates these tendencies in them like a vicious cycle.
The majority of people are decent and reasonable, and don't have the stomach for the social media toxicity at that level. I'd still argue, however, that they, too, are devout members of the Church of Money. Just more subtly so.
