Carbon tax actually has bipartisan support. I share your concern about political salability, and I don’t presume my preferences and calculated optimal proposal would be approved right out of the gate. I suspect we’ll have to start smaller and build to get to a full UBI.

There are good reasons to include more than just a flat tax at the beginning, though. That will lack support from democrats, who will see it as regressive without understanding that pairing it with UBI makes it progressive. I think a carbon tax is more likely to be in the original successful UBI bill than a flat income tax, honestly.

But I’m flexible. We’ll see what sticks when we get to that point. There are many ways to get it done.
